Now you see it...

Now you don't!

Stripes are off. That was the easiest thing ever. Pick up the corner with your fingernail, then peel. No heat gun. No hairdryer. Nothing. They peeled off clean on the hood scoop and wing, and left a bunch of sticky residue on the hood and trunk. Got the residue off with lacquer thinner, which wiped it off no problem.

Plus my new front valance arrived today.

Hopefully I can get the car washed before I hit the track tomorrow. Gotta make runnin' 14s look good.

Once Josh details the car, any evidence the stripes were ever there will disappear. I like it much better without them. Much cleaner look. Almost looks wider now too.

Well, track numbers are in!

Only owned the car a week. 100% bone stock with my laptop bag and some other crap in the car. Factory 19's with 255 Pirellis.

1st Pass - 14.0 @ 106, 2.4 60' (missed third, just like I said I would  )
2nd Pass - 13.9 @ 108, 2.3 60'

Third time's a charm...

13.282 @ 110.04 mph. 2.184 60'

Trent and I made a total of 12 runs that night mostly in the 13.7 @ 107-8 range, but Trent was unable to best my third pass. He made more passes than I did in fact. The car wheel hops like CRAZY in second gear, and third, and spins the tires in fourth. In fact, depending on how the pass goes, I actually hit the limiter in fourth a couple times just as I was going through the traps.

The best part was that my 13.2 time was faster than the best times of the '11 GT500 and the '11 5.0 with an Edelbrock blower and huge Nittos. Plus, Trent was making a mess of that GT500, and some poor 2005-2010 Roush. Probably the closest run of the night was me against some AWD import thing. (maybe a WRX?) I ran 13.656 to his 13.667, but he got the win because he tree'd me. He had a lead on me, but on the big end I started reeling him in.

At the end of the day, I had an absolute BLAST. It was so fun to race again, and the fact that this thing went low 13s at 110 mph right outta the gate is pretty awesome. Then my GF and rolled home in air conditioned silence and comfort whilst getting 23 mpg on the freeway.

I love this car.

Nice job Paul!

It's sad to think we do so much work to these sn95's to get them into the low 13's (besides adding a supercharger or turbo) and you got that rocket ship from the factory haha!

I bet with a little suspension work and some practice you could set her into the 12's.

I want one so bad!

Nice runs, get that wheel hop under control and some better 60 foots and it would be a solid 12 second car!

Those coyotes are definitely sick cars.

And g36, your also comparing a 20 year old mustang worth 1/10th of what a new coyote cost, of course the coyote will be far faster when comparing stock to stock....of course you could easily match the coyotes times with a few grand into the right places on one of these turds.

99-04 cars can run low 13s with bolt ons.....96-98 need the pi swap but pi swap parts are dirt cheap.

Javi - do you happen to know what wheels/tires those are? Looks like his headlights are tinted as well, don't you think?

For some reaosn i didnt see this post, wheels are Forgestar F14 in Piano Black 20x9 front 20x11 rear with 255/35 upfront and 305/35 outback michelin pilot sport 2 and as far as the smoked headlights its just a smoked film over it.

looks tons better without the stripes, the red POPS!

So my buddy Josh came by this morning to help me with install the GT/CS front and rear bumper covers and the Saleen grille. Overall, this is a ridiculously easy install. We had it all done in 3.5 hours and we weren't exactly working that hard. There were a couple times when it was definitely helpful to have two people - mostly when prying the valances off the bumper cover, and when lifting the whole assembly on/off the car.

Plus, Josh detailed my Honda yesterday. He is pretty much the man, and I'll never have anyone else detail for me. He does my toaster about four times a year for me.

Not bad for a 2009 Toaster with 36,000 miles on it.

Anyway, back to the Mustang...

First, we pulled off the louvers. They are attached with very sophisticated velcro. Took about 90 seconds per side once we realized there was no 3M double-sided tape on there. :D

Then we pulled the side scoops off. These are indeed held on with double-sided tape, but it was nothing some string wouldn't cut through. Then we "rolled" the tape residue off, and cleaned it up with Lacquer Thinner.

Oh noes! Lacquer thinner!! :p

The GT/CS bumpers are the same as the Boss, except the boss has a splitter attached to the bottom of the front valance. Not sure if I'm going to get one of those yet. You have to pull both bumper covers off to do this, separate the "halves" and then re-attach the new lower valances. The new one came with the fog lights pre-installed, and nice easy direct plug-in harnesses. It really is ridiculously simple.

Pull the bumper:

Rear GT/CS valance installed: (this is even easier than the front - you can pull the rear bumper in about 10 minutes)

I want to remove that ugly black plastic center thing from the trunk lid, but I would need something to go where the pony "gas cap" goes, so I either need to buy one or figure out a different plan. That's for another time.

Lots of cars strewn about.

All done!

Josh is gonna do a full detail on the Mustang tomorrow morning, so it will be flawless.

I would have to see the car in person, but the only thing that looks a bit off from the pics is the headlight lenses. Maybe a little vht to give it a little tint might make it perfect. But then agian, could just be the pics.

Yep. I agree. I plan to tint the headlights and the taillights. I don't want them dark at all... just a light touch of gray.

Nice, though I've never been a fan of the Saleen grille...I love the stock fogs in the grille, a defining feature IMO. I would agree on the tail panel, it's cheesy and needs to go...and now that you're taking everything else off, the wing is starting to look kind of odd to me.

The car definitely looks worlds better than when you bought it though, it's coming along nicely. The tin can ain't bad either...a new CR-Z is on the short list for the wife to look at for her car.

i love the new front, looks so much more badass! I think the black trunk panel will look better once the tail lights are tinted...
